Who called me from 805-637-7243?

On its voicemail help page, T-Mobile tells customers who cannot reach voicemail: "Using a non-T-Mobile phone, dial 1-805-MESSAGE (1-805-637-7243)."^[1] The same page says unanswered calls should be forwarded to 18056377243 for voicemail to work.

So this number is part of T-Mobile's own voicemail service. It is not a collection agency or a lender. If a voicemail mentioned a debt, the caller's real number is the one to look up.

The number itself belongs to T-Mobile, but caller ID can be faked, so a familiar number on your screen proves nothing on its own.^[2] Scammers copy real company numbers to look genuine.

• Do not give card or bank details to someone who called you.
• Hang up and call T-Mobile back on a number you find yourself: T-Mobile customer care, through the T-Mobile app or the number on your bill.
• A real company can tell you who the account is with and how much is owed, and will not insist on gift cards, wire transfers or payment apps.^[3]

If you owe T-Mobile itself and the bill is overdue, contact T-Mobile directly. If the account has been passed to a collection agency, that agency must send you a written validation notice.
