Wakefield & Associates: checking a text about a medical bill
Wakefield describes itself as a healthcare revenue cycle management company, collecting medical bills for healthcare providers. Wakefield's home page says it is partnering with Revco Solutions, and Revco announced in February 2025 that the merged company would operate as Revco Solutions. So a Wakefield text or letter is almost always about a hospital, clinic or ambulance bill, and checking it means checking both the message and the bill.
Start with the free check; it says plainly when a letter will not help. If it will, the letter and three follow-ups cost $39 ($29 for military, veterans, seniors and people with disabilities).

Wakefield's website gives this address for credit report disputes. Use the address on your own notice if it is different.
Is a text from Wakefield & Associates real?
It can be. Wakefield's text messaging policy says giving a mobile number lets it send account texts such as payment reminders, and that you can text STOP to opt out. Texts quoted in a 2021 lawsuit were signed "Wakefield & Assoc", gave the number 866-470-0171 and said "Reply YES for info or STOP to end".
Wakefield's own website does not list a phone number. Since the merger, Revco lists 855-202-0113 as its main consumer line and 865-281-1022 for the former Wakefield office in Knoxville. If a text gives a different number or a payment link, do not use it: call one of those numbers, or ask for a letter. The payment links on Wakefield's site now lead to Revco's EvokePay portal. Our free scam checker also looks at a text's links and wording.
You can reply STOP to end texts, and tell Wakefield in writing to contact you only by mail.

Wakefield, Revco and older accounts
ACA International described it in 2022 as a company founded in 1933 and based in Aurora, Colorado. Its 2025 data breach notice gives its address as 320 North Cedar Bluff Road, Suite 300, Knoxville, Tennessee. Wakefield's home page says it is partnering with Revco Solutions, and Revco announced in February 2025 that the merged company would operate as Revco Solutions; our Revco Solutions page has Revco's own contact details.
Its payment page also handles accounts that were previously with RMB, Inc. or Revenue Recovery Corporation, so an old bill may have changed hands more than once. Your notice must name the current creditor and itemize the balance.
The 2025 data breach
In November 2025 Wakefield mailed data breach notices saying its systems were accessed on or before January 17, 2025, and that names, Social Security numbers and health information may have been involved; it offered 12 months of free credit monitoring. HIPAA Journal reported that 26,624 Montana residents alone were affected.
A breach notice is not a bill. If you received one, consider the free credit monitoring it offers, and be extra careful with calls or texts that use your personal details to press for payment.
Disputing a Wakefield medical bill
A written dispute inside the validation period makes the collector stop until it mails verification. Ask the provider for an itemized bill and insurance history too, and ask a nonprofit hospital about financial assistance. It offers Spanish-speaking representatives by phone and Spanish versions of some letters.
A Colorado Attorney General report covering late 2018 to mid 2019 lists a $2,000 resolution with Wakefield for collecting while an account was under dispute and collecting an amount not due. In 2017 a federal judge in Illinois dismissed a suit over Wakefield's "interest may be accruing" letter wording.
Collections under $500 for medical care, and paid ones, stay off credit reports; how medical debt affects credit explains the rest, and disputing a medical bill covers errors.

A worked example in October
Suppose Wakefield mails a notice on Wednesday, October 6, 2027 about a $388.25 lab bill you believe insurance should have paid.
- Counting five working days, with Columbus Day skipped, the assumed receipt date is Thursday, October 14, 2027.
- The validation period runs until at least Saturday, November 13, 2027.
- Ask the lab for its insurance claim record, and send a written dispute saying the amount is wrong before that date.
For the rules that apply where this example is set, see debt collection law in Tennessee.
Sample letter to Wakefield
This opening is for someone in Tennessee who believes insurance should have paid a lab bill Wakefield is collecting. It disputes the amount inside the validation period and asks for the itemization.
