Transworld Systems wrote to you. Ask who owns the debt and what proves it
Transworld Systems Inc., known as TSI, is a collection agency headquartered in Fort Washington, Pennsylvania. It collects for creditors across many industries, and its pages list several licensed entities and P.O. boxes. Since 2021 it has also owned Convergent Outsourcing. Whichever TSI company wrote to you, the paperwork behind the debt is what to ask for.
The check is free and tells you plainly if a letter will not help. If it will, it costs $29 ($19 for military, veterans, seniors and people with disabilities) with three follow-ups.

TSI uses several P.O. boxes for different programs. The one shown here is from its account portal. Use the address printed on your own notice.
TSI's 2017 CFPB order
As debt collector for the National Collegiate Student Loan Trusts, TSI was found to have filed false or misleading affidavits, given false or misleading testimony, and filed collection lawsuits when the debt could not be proved. The order required a $2.5 million penalty and barred suing, collecting or negative credit reporting without proper documentation. A proposed judgment against the trusts themselves was later rejected by the court, and the CFPB's case against the trusts was dismissed in 2025.
If TSI is writing about a private student loan owned by one of those trusts, see our page on the National Collegiate trusts for what the courts decided and which documents to ask for. Federal student loans are a different system and are not covered here.
Whatever the debt, a written dispute inside the validation period makes TSI stop collecting until it mails verification.
Convergent Outsourcing is now part of TSI
On June 4, 2021, TSI completed its purchase of Account Control Technology Holdings, whose companies included Convergent Outsourcing, Inc. TSI has since filed for the CONVERGENT trademark for collection and outsourcing services.
So a letter or credit report entry from Convergent Outsourcing is now a TSI matter. Old Convergent contact details may no longer be monitored. Write to the address on your most recent notice, and if that is a Convergent notice, ask in your letter which company now holds the account.
The rights are the same either way. A written dispute inside the validation period makes the collector stop until it mails verification.
Old loans and the time limit
A private student loan can be many years old by the time a collector writes. The time limit for a lawsuit runs under your state's law, usually from default or your last payment. A collector must not sue or threaten to sue once it has passed.
Do not make a "good faith" payment on a very old loan until you have checked. In some states a payment restarts the clock. The free check asks when you last paid and warns you.
Several TSI companies, several P.O. boxes
TSI's Connecticut notice lists 13 different NMLS numbers, and its North Carolina notice lists several company numbers, which suggests several licensed TSI entities and programs. TSI's own pages also list different P.O. boxes for different purposes, such as payments and portal correspondence.
So the safest address for a dispute is the one printed on your own validation notice. If your notice gives none, the portal correspondence address is Transworld Systems Inc., PO Box 15130, Wilmington, DE 19850-5130, and you can also note the account number and creditor name so the letter reaches the right program.
TSI's complaint hotline is 866-545-9191. A complaint by phone does not replace a written dispute.
Medical balances are often wrong or reducible. Before paying TSI, read how to get an itemized bill and negotiate it, and check when medical debt can appear on your credit report.
You also have rights over how TSI contacts you: our guide to stopping debt collector calls explains the seven-calls-in-seven-days rule and how to limit contact.
A written dispute is your strongest first step; our guide on how to write a debt validation letter includes a free sample.
A worked example over Presidents Day
Imagine TSI mails a validation notice on Wednesday, February 10, 2027 about a private student loan with a claimed balance of $14,906.52.
- Presidents Day (February 15) does not count, so the fifth working day after mailing is Thursday, February 18, 2027.
- The dispute period can end no earlier than Saturday, March 20, 2027, a Saturday.
- Your last payment was in 2014. Check your state's time limit before doing anything else, and do not pay or promise payment.
- Mail the dispute to the address on the notice, naming the trust as the current creditor and asking for the promissory note and the chain of transfers.

Sample letter to TSI
This is the opening for someone in Pennsylvania whose TSI notice concerns a private student loan last paid many years ago, and who cannot find a dispute date on the letter. It disputes the debt and asks for the dates the statute of limitations depends on.
It names the loan trust as the current creditor and, further down, asks for the signed note and the chain of transfers. Details are made up.
Questions people ask about TSI
Is Transworld Systems a scam?
No. TSI is a real, licensed collection agency, with NMLS ID 950422 among others. Check any call against the numbers on TSI's own websites.
What are the National Collegiate Student Loan Trusts?
They are a group of trusts that own private student loans. The CFPB said they owned more than 800,000 loans in 2017. TSI has collected for them.
Does this page cover federal student loans?
No. Federal student loans have their own servicers, collection rules and repayment options. Check studentaid.gov for those.
Why does TSI use so many addresses?
TSI operates several licensed entities and programs, and uses different P.O. boxes for different purposes. Use the address on your own notice.
TSI sued me over a student loan. Can this help?
Not with a letter. A lawsuit needs a written answer by the deadline on the summons. In these cases, documents proving ownership of the loan often matter, so talk to legal aid quickly.
Are you connected to TSI?
No. We are an independent document tool and name TSI only to describe who contacted you.
