Radius Global Solutions: check the call is real, then make it prove the bill

Radius Global Solutions, LLC, based in Edina, Minnesota, is an outsourcing firm whose services include debt collection, early-stage delinquency management, contact centers and healthcare revenue cycle management, for clients in healthcare, telecommunications, utilities, retail and transportation. In other words, it usually works for the company you owed, not for itself. Before you deal with anyone claiming to be Radius, make sure it really is Radius.

The check is free and honest about weak cases. If a letter will help, it costs $29 ($19 for military, veterans, seniors and people with disabilities) with three follow-ups.

Radius has several offices. This is the headquarters address on its website and payment portal. If your notice gives a different address for disputes, use that one.

The 2023 data event, and why it matters now

In its own notice, Radius said it learned on June 1, 2023 of a vulnerability in the MOVEit file transfer application it uses, that cybercriminals had exploited it, and that some documents were accessed. It then reviewed the files and notified the people whose information they contained.

Radius said the files related to collection work for its clients. Breached personal details are exactly what scammers use to sound convincing: your name, an old account, even a real balance. So treat any unexpected call that claims to be Radius with care, especially one pushing for payment by gift card, wire or app.

Check before you pay: use the phone number on Radius's own website or payment portal, (888) 287-5711, and ask for the validation notice in writing. A real collector has to give you validation information. If you received a breach notice, the notice itself explains steps such as credit freezes.

Who actually owns a Radius account

Radius describes its work as collections and early-stage delinquency management for clients. For most people, that means a hospital, a utility, a phone company or a retailer still owns the bill and has placed it with Radius. The notice must name that creditor.

That is useful. If the bill is medical, ask the provider for an itemized bill and check whether insurance was billed. If it is a utility or phone bill, the provider's final statement is your evidence. Our form puts the creditor in the "current owner" field so the letter names it.

A written dispute inside the validation period obliges Radius to stop collecting until it mails verification. You can also ask it to use mail only.

Where to write

Radius lists several office locations. For a dispute, use the address your notice gives. If it gives none, Radius's headquarters on its website is Radius Global Solutions, LLC, 7505 Metro Blvd, Suite 400, Edina, MN 55439.

Send by certified mail and keep the receipt. If you prefer the online payment portal for paying later, that is separate from disputing: a portal message is not the same as a written dispute with proof of the date.

Thinking about paying Radius? Read whether you should pay a collection agency first, because paying an old or unverified debt can backfire.

The quickest way to make Radius prove the debt is a debt validation letter sent inside the dispute window.

A worked example: Juneteenth on a Saturday

Say Radius mails a validation notice on Tuesday, June 15, 2027 for a $742.90 hospital balance.

  1. Juneteenth (June 19) falls on a Saturday in 2027, so it does not change the count. The fifth working day after mailing is Tuesday, June 22, 2027.
  2. The dispute period can end no earlier than Thursday, July 22, 2027.
  3. Before writing, ask the hospital for an itemized bill and your insurer for the explanation of benefits.
  4. Mail the dispute to Radius by certified mail, naming the hospital as the current creditor.

For the rules that apply where this example is set, see debt collection law in Minnesota.

Sample letter to Radius

This is for someone in Minnesota getting calls from Radius about a medical bill they believe is not theirs, with no letter yet. It asks Radius for the validation information in writing, disputes the debt in full, and asks for the records used to open the account.

It also asks Radius to stop calling and write instead. Details are made up.

Re: Account / reference number RG-XXXX2287 Current creditor: Example Medical Center Amount claimed: $742.90 Notice of dispute and request for validation To whom it may concern: Your company has contacted me about the account above. I have not received written validation information from you. I dispute this debt in full. I believe this account was opened or used by someone else without my authorization. If you claim that I opened or used it, please include copies of the application or agreement and any signature, address, telephone or electronic records used to open or use it. Please send me the validation information required by Regulation F, 12 CFR 1006.34. I also request verification of the debt, and I ask that you stop collection activity until you have provided it.

Questions people ask about Radius

Is Radius Global Solutions a scam?

No. Radius is a real collection agency, NMLS ID 936423. Scammers do impersonate real collectors, so verify any call using the number on Radius's own website.

Was my information in the Radius data breach?

Radius sent notices to the people whose information was in the affected files. If you did not get one, that is a good sign, but stay alert to calls that know details about an old account.

Did Radius buy my debt?

Usually not. Radius describes itself as collecting for clients. Your notice must say who the debt is currently owed to.

Can I pay the hospital directly instead?

Ask the provider in writing whether it will take payment and recall the account from Radius. Get any agreement in writing before paying anyone.

Does a dispute stop Radius calling?

A written dispute inside the validation period stops collection until Radius verifies the debt. Asking for mail only stops the calls separately.

Are you connected to Radius?

No. We are an independent document tool and name Radius only to describe who contacted you.
