Enhanced Recovery Company is gone. Your account may not be
Enhanced Recovery Company, LLC, known as ERC, was a Jacksonville, Florida collection agency for phone, cable, utility and bank accounts. It no longer collects. Its collection business was sold in 2022 and its Jacksonville office closed in 2023. If ERC still appears on your credit report or old letters, the question is who holds the account today.
The free check tells you honestly whether writing is worth it. If it is, the letter and three follow-ups cost $29 ($19 for military, veterans, seniors and people with disabilities).

What happened to ERC
On October 4, 2022, ERC announced it had sold its debt collection business to TrueML, a financial technology company, including its recovery book of business, its U.S. and India collection agents, U.S. facilities and collections technology. The rest of the company continued as ERC Global, a customer-service outsourcing business.
TrueML, based in Lenexa, Kansas, also owns the collection agency TrueAccord. In September 2023, Enhanced Recovery Company filed a state notice that it was closing its facility at 8014 Bayberry Road in Jacksonville, Florida, affecting 164 jobs, because it had decided to stop doing business in North Florida.
Before the sale, ERC said that it it was contracted by creditors and some debt buyers, did not own the debts it serviced, and was not a debt buyer. ERC said it worked with clients in telecommunications, utilities, banking, cable and finance.
So who has your account now?
Because ERC was an agency, it never owned the accounts. The creditor did. When ERC stopped collecting, an account could have gone one of three ways: on to TrueAccord with the rest of ERC's collection business, to a different agency chosen by the creditor, or back to the creditor.
The answer is in your mail and your credit report. Look for the most recent letter or email about the account, and check which company is now reporting it. Whoever is collecting now has to give you validation information.
TrueAccord says it is a licensed third-party collection agency that collects for clients and does not buy debts. So if TrueAccord contacts you about an old ERC account, the creditor it names, such as your phone or cable company, still owns the debt.
If ERC is still on your credit report
An old ERC collection entry can stay on a report after the company stops collecting. Do not send a dispute to the closed Jacksonville office. If no one has contacted you since ERC closed, there may be no active collector to dispute with.
Disputing a credit report entry with the credit bureaus is a separate process, which we do not handle. Our letter is for a collector that is actively contacting you. If that is TrueAccord or another agency, a written dispute inside the validation period makes it stop collecting until it mails verification.
If the account is old, check the time limit in your state before paying anything. In some states a payment restarts the clock.
You also have rights over how ERC contacts you: our guide to stopping debt collector calls explains the seven-calls-in-seven-days rule and how to limit contact.
If ERC has reported the account, our guide on how collections affect your credit covers the special rules for medical debt, and disputing a collection entry covers the rest.
A worked example: a new notice over the holidays
Suppose TrueAccord sends a validation notice on Thursday, December 24, 2026 about an old $221.06 phone bill that ERC once collected.
- Christmas and New Year's Day both fall in the next week and do not count, so the fifth working day is Monday, January 4, 2027.
- The dispute period can end no earlier than Wednesday, February 3, 2027.
- Your records show you paid the final bill to the phone company. Send a copy of that proof with your dispute.
- Write to the address on the TrueAccord notice, and name the phone company as the current creditor.
The time limits and garnishment rules for this example are in our Ohio debt collection guide.
Sample letter to ERC
This is for someone in Ohio who sees an old phone bill that ERC once collected still showing as unpaid, although they paid it. It goes to the company now collecting, here TrueAccord, and names the phone company as the current creditor.
It disputes the debt and encloses proof of payment. Details are made up.
Questions people ask about ERC
Is Enhanced Recovery Company still in business?
Not as a collector. It sold its collection business to TrueML in 2022, closed its Jacksonville office in 2023, and BBB lists it as out of business. The ERC name continues as ERC Global, a customer-service outsourcing company.
Do I still owe a debt that ERC was collecting?
Possibly. ERC never owned the accounts, so the original creditor may still be owed. Who you deal with depends on who contacts you now.
Is TrueAccord the same as ERC?
No, but they are related. TrueAccord's owner, TrueML, bought ERC's collection business in 2022. TrueAccord is a separate licensed agency.
Can I dispute with ERC?
ERC's offices are closed, so a letter to its old address is unlikely to reach anyone. Dispute with the company now contacting you.
Why is ERC still on my credit report?
Collection entries can remain after an agency stops collecting. Disputing the entry with the credit bureaus is a separate process that we do not handle.
Are you connected to ERC or TrueAccord?
No. We are an independent document tool and name these companies only to describe who contacted you.
