Tate & Kirlin Associates: send your dispute to the right address

Tate & Kirlin Associates, Inc. (TKA) is a collection agency in Pennsylvania. It collects for original creditors such as banks, credit card issuers and health care systems, and may also service debts that debt buyers have purchased. It has moved more than once, so before you write, make sure you have its current address.

The check is free and says plainly if a letter will not help. If it will, the letter and three follow-ups cost $29 ($19 for military, veterans, seniors and people with disabilities).

This is the current address on Tate & Kirlin's own website. Older addresses still appear online, so check the one on your notice matches. A certified letter gives you proof of when your dispute arrived.

Use the current address

Tate & Kirlin's website gives its address as Trevose, Pennsylvania. Older addresses still circulate online, including 580 Middletown Boulevard in Langhorne, Pennsylvania, which its website once listed, and 2810 Southampton Road in Philadelphia. A dispute sent to an old address may be forwarded late or not at all, and the clock keeps running.

Use the dispute address printed on your own notice, which must say where the collector accepts disputes, and check it against the company's website. Sending by certified mail gives you proof of delivery whichever address you use.

If you already wrote to an old address and heard nothing, do not assume the dispute was received. Send it again to Trevose with a note of the date you first sent it, and keep both receipts; if the first letter comes back undelivered, keep the envelope too.

When the account has been sold

Tate & Kirlin works both for the lenders that made the original loans and for companies that later bought those accounts. The difference matters: if a debt buyer now owns the account, the original bank may no longer be able to discuss it, and the paperwork has passed through more hands.

Your notice must say who owns the debt now. If that is not the company you dealt with, you can ask for the original creditor's name and address in writing. Ask too for the date the account was charged off, because it affects how long the debt can be reported and, in many states, sued on.

Bills for things you never ordered

In 2017 the Better Business Bureau began receiving complaints about Tate & Kirlin's collection for a client called TRS Limited, from consumers who said they never agreed to buy anything or had returned what they ordered, and posted an alert. If you are asked to pay for goods or a subscription you did not agree to, or returned, say so in a written dispute and ask for the agreement and the order and return records. The collector must stop collecting until it mails verification.

Texts and calls

People often first hear from Tate & Kirlin by text or phone. If a message asks you to pay, do not use its link: call 1-800-355-0333 or check the company's own website. Tate & Kirlin says it has over 27 years of experience recovering unpaid accounts. If it is not your debt, say so and ask it to stop contacting that number.

If TKA has added the account to your credit report, our guide to removing collections from your credit report explains when an entry can be disputed. And if it is the calls that are the problem, you can tell a debt collector to stop contacting you in writing.

Before agreeing to a settlement with TKA, read how to negotiate with a debt collector and get the terms in writing.

Pennsylvania residents

If you live in Pennsylvania, state law protects your paycheck more than most states do. Credit card and medical debts are not among the exceptions, so a creditor who wins a Pennsylvania judgment on them cannot garnish your paycheck. Bank accounts are a different matter, and our Pennsylvania guide explains the details.

A worked example over Columbus Day

Say Tate & Kirlin mails a notice on Friday, October 8, 2027 about a $940.55 credit card balance.

  1. Columbus Day (October 11) and the weekend do not count, so the fifth working day after mailing is Monday, October 18, 2027.
  2. The dispute period can end no earlier than Wednesday, November 17, 2027.
  3. Mail your dispute to the Trevose address by certified mail, naming the card issuer as the creditor.

This opening is for someone in Pennsylvania who paid a credit card balance to the original bank before the account was sold, and now hears from Tate & Kirlin about it. It disputes the debt inside the validation period.
