Enterprise Recovery: work out who really contacted you
Enterprise Recovery Systems was an Illinois collection agency best known for student loans. Enterprise Recovery Systems, Inc. now operates as Alltran Education, Inc.; the Better Business Bureau lists Enterprise Recovery Systems as an alternate name, and contracts and court filings use both names. Because the name has changed hands, and other companies use similar names, the first job is to confirm exactly who contacted you.
The check is free and says plainly if a letter will not help. If it will, the letter and three follow-ups cost $29 ($19 for military, veterans, seniors and people with disabilities).

ERS at a glance
- What it is now
- Alltran Education, Inc.
- Started
- 1988, Illinois
- Known for
- Student loan collection
- Old website
- ersinc.com, now for sale
- Dispute address
- Use the address on your notice
We have not been able to confirm a current dispute address from the company itself, so use the address printed on your own notice. The notice must give the address where the collector accepts disputes.
Its old website is for sale: be careful
Its old website address, ersinc.com, was listed for sale on GoDaddy when we checked on October 5, 2026. That means a page at that address may not belong to the collector at all, now or in future, so do not use it to pay or to check your account.
If a text or email says it is from "Enterprise Recovery", do not tap its links. Use the company name and address on a written notice, and our free scam checker to look for warning signs.
Which "Enterprise Recovery" is it?
Other businesses use similar names, such as Enterprise Recovery LLC, a business-to-business collector. So a message that just says "Enterprise Recovery" may not be from the former Enterprise Recovery Systems at all.
Ask for the written validation notice. It must give the collector's full name and the address where it accepts disputes, and name the creditor you owe now. The Better Business Bureau lists Alltran Education at 840 S Frontage Rd, Woodridge, IL 60517 and P.O. Box 8030, Westchester, IL 60154, with the phone number (630) 574-3113; check that whatever you receive matches a real company.
Student loans and the Department of Education
In February 2015 the Department of Education said it would wind down its contracts with five private collection agencies, including Enterprise Recovery Systems, after a review found they had made materially inaccurate representations to borrowers about the loan rehabilitation program. In 2017 the Department of Education again assigned defaulted student loan accounts to Alltran, formerly Enterprise Recovery Systems, along with another of the five agencies.
If your account is a federal student loan, the rules differ from other debts. Federal student loans have no statute of limitations, and in default the Department of Education can order an employer to withhold up to 15% of disposable pay without going to court. Rehabilitation and consolidation, the main ways out of default, are Department of Education programs, so you can confirm any offer directly with the Department rather than relying only on the collector's description.
If ERS says your wages are at risk, see how administrative wage garnishment for student loans works and the 30-day window to ask for a hearing.
How to dispute
We have not been able to confirm a current dispute address from the company itself, so use the address printed on your own notice. The notice must give the address where the collector accepts disputes. A written dispute inside the validation period makes the collector stop collecting until it mails verification. For a student loan, ask for the loan history and who holds the loan now.
Thinking about paying ERS? Read whether you should pay a collection agency first, because paying an old or unverified debt can backfire.
A worked example around Veterans Day
Say a notice is mailed on Friday, November 5, 2027.
- Veterans Day (November 11) and the weekend do not count, so the fifth working day after mailing is Monday, November 15, 2027.
- The dispute period can end no earlier than Wednesday, December 15, 2027.
- Send your dispute to the address printed on the notice by certified mail.

This opening is for someone in Illinois who does not recognize a student loan balance in a notice from a company using the Enterprise Recovery name. It disputes the debt inside the validation period.

Questions people ask about ERS
Is Enterprise Recovery Systems still in business?
It now operates as Alltran Education, Inc. The Better Business Bureau lists Enterprise Recovery Systems as an alternate name.
Is an "Enterprise Recovery" text a scam?
It might not be from the company you think: several businesses use similar names, and the old ERS website is for sale. Check the written notice and do not use links in the message.
Where do I send a dispute?
To the dispute address printed on your notice. We have not been able to confirm a current dispute address from the company itself.
Did the Department of Education stop using Enterprise Recovery Systems?
In 2015 it said it would wind down ERS's contract over inaccurate information given to borrowers, but in 2017 it again assigned accounts to Alltran, formerly ERS.
Can my wages be garnished for a federal student loan?
Yes. In default, the Department of Education can order up to 15% of disposable pay withheld without a court order, but you can request a hearing.
Are you connected to Enterprise Recovery Systems or Alltran?
No. We are an independent document tool and name them only to describe who contacted you.
