American Coradius International: pin down which account it is
American Coradius International LLC (ACI) is a collection agency in Amherst, New York. ACI describes itself as a nationally licensed collection agency working for clients across the financial industry. Many people first hear from it about an online account, so the first job is to find out exactly which account and which company it comes from.
The check is free and says plainly if a letter will not help. If it will, the letter and three follow-ups cost $29 ($19 for military, veterans, seniors and people with disabilities).

ACI accepts disputes at its compliance email address and mail at its Amherst office. Whichever you use, include your name, address and account number, and keep proof of when you sent it.
PayPal and other online accounts
Consumer law firms report that ACI often collects accounts for PayPal. A PayPal-related balance can come from different places: a negative balance on the account itself, or a credit product linked to it, which may belong to a different lender. Each has its own records and its own creditor.
The validation notice must name the creditor you owe now, and if that is different from the original creditor you can ask for the original creditor's name and address. Log in to the account directly, not through a link in a message, and compare the history with what ACI says.
A written dispute is your strongest first step; our guide on how to write a debt validation letter includes a free sample.
Sending your dispute to ACI
ACI asks people to email its compliance address with disputes or requests for the original creditor's name and address, and says it may reply by mail or phone. Give it enough to find you: your full name, mailing address, phone number, and the reference number from the notice.
Email counts as writing. Sent before the validation period ends, it obliges ACI to pause until verification arrives in the mail. Because ACI may answer by phone, ask in the same email for the answer in writing, and screenshot what you sent. With only days left, post a copy to Amherst too, by certified mail.

Checking the license
ACI publishes its NMLS number, 816187, on its contact page. You can look it up in the Nationwide Multistate Licensing System's public register to see which states license it. The business was started in 1989 in Amherst, New York.
If a message claims to be from ACI but gives a different email domain or phone number, check it against the contact page on ACI's own website, or paste it into our free scam checker.
Choosing how ACI reaches you
Prefer letters to calls? Say so. Collectors must respect a request not to use a particular channel, such as phone or email. Going further, a written instruction to cease all contact ends the calls, with narrow exceptions, while leaving the balance itself unchanged. Sample wording for both is in our rights guide.
A worked example over Presidents Day
Say ACI mails a notice on Wednesday, February 10, 2027 about a $512.86 balance.
- Washington's Birthday, often called Presidents Day (February 15), and the weekend do not count, so the fifth working day after mailing is Thursday, February 18, 2027.
- The dispute period can end no earlier than Saturday, March 20, 2027.
- Email the dispute to the compliance address, keep a copy, and ask which account and creditor the balance comes from.
